Parathyroid Surgery/Primary Hyperparathyroidectomy

Parathyroid glands are small glands located behind the thyroid glands, which control calcium in the body. Hyperparathyroidism is a condition in which parathyroid hormone production is abnormally high and thus calcium levels are high. It can lead to osteoporosis, pancreas problems, and the like, and is more frequently being diagnosed early because of routine blood tests. Dr. Tamez is highly experienced in the evaluation of parathyroid adenomas and performs the latest in minimal radioguided parathyroid surgery. Parathyroid carcinoma is extremely rare.
