Patients with Eustachian tube dysfunction can have severely retracted tympanic membranes which can cause trapping of the skin and the growth of a skin tumor. The skin tumor can cause infection and destruction of middle ear structures which can lead to hearing loss and/or dizziness. The facial nerve runs in the middle ear and facial paralysis can occur with Cholesteatoma.
