The blood supply to the ear/pinna/auricle comes from its lining called perichondrium. Trauma can cause bleeding under the lining which in essence disconnects the blood supply to the cartilage and thus deformation (cauliflower ear) occurs. This can occur with wrestling, fighting, and accidents.
Incising/cutting into the skin and lining (perichondrium) to remove the blood/fluid, and then placing a pressure dressing (bolster) to prevent its reoccurrence.
